5 Ways To Use Surface Disinfecting Wipes (That You May Not Have Thought Of)

Surface Disinfecting Wipes Tips

Are you unfamiliar with surface disinfecting wipes (just like some of us here) too?

Here’s a little bit about surface disinfecting wipes before we tell you about all the other creative ways to use surface disinfecting wipes apart from the usual cleaning and disinfecting of equipment at hospitals and clinics.

Surface disinfecting wipes have a germ-killing solution on them. “They’re designed to kill viruses and bacteria on surfaces like doorknobs and handles, counters, light switches, taps, TV and air-conditioner remotes, and even phones,” says Dr. McWilliams. [1]

Here are 5 creative ways to use Surface Disinfecting Wipes:

1. Mopping The Floor

This is one of our top favourite ways to use surface disinfecting wipes. We’d say that this idea is pretty original.

One of our friends said he and his wife had a Eureka moment when they figured that they could use surface disinfecting wipes on their robot vacuum cleaner to mop the floor instead of the usual water-detergent-cloth method, and be assured that the floor is not merely clean, but also disinfected. Great idea especially for those with kids who crawl all over. Genius!

2. Cleaning The Kitchen

We like the idea of using surface disinfecting wipes to clean the kitchen because according to microbiologist Charles Gerba, a professor of public health, environmental science and immunology at the University of Arizona, “There's more fecal bacteria in your kitchen sink than there is in a toilet after you flush it. The kitchen is one of the germiest spots in the home.” [2]

And did you know that surface disinfecting wipes work great to wipe off the grease from your kitchen stove? Another friend of ours said she loves using surface disinfecting wipes to wipe the grease off her kitchen stove, while another friend loves using surface disinfecting wipes to clean the microwave and oven. It works surprisingly well because of its non-woven material - trapping the dirt (wipe once and voilà), and cleaning and disinfecting at the same time.

3. Cleaning Your Car Interior

We hate to break it to you but there are about 700 different strains of bacteria living in your car’s interior. [3]

According to a study attempting to measure how filthy car interiors are, bacteria were measured per centimeter, or colony forming units (CFU). The results were then compared to public surfaces that are mostly touched on a daily basis. The average steering wheel has 629 CFU per square centimeter – making it four times dirtier than a public toilet seat, and filthier than public elevator buttons (313 CFU) and the average mobile phone (100 CFU). [3]

Other parts of your car which you might want to give special attention to clean and disinfect are cup holders (506 CFU), seatbelts (403 CFU), door handles, gear shifters, and audio control dials. [3]

4. Wiping Broadcasting & Live Streaming Equipment

It’s 2022 and Covid-19 has gotten everything going live stream - vlogs, sales, auctions, concerts, seminars, events and even church services. But setting up these live streaming sets require a lot of touch - camcorders, tripods, lights, batteries, cables, microphones, headsets, you name it. So how do you keep people’s germs to themselves?

Spraying and wiping does not work for these equipment because they would be too wet. So one of our friends involved in broadcast and live streaming told us that they regularly use surface disinfectant wipes to keep their equipment free from germs after each use.

5. Wiping Baby Seats

This one’s for the parents!

Babies naturally have skin that is more sensitive than older children and adult’s skin. [4] So you will want to make sure that the surfaces that get into contact with your baby’s skin are clean and disinfected to prevent irritation or infection.

Besides that, it’s also a great way to clean up the food mess your baby left on the baby seat.
